Mariana Bridi da Costa

Tragedy sorrounds Mariana Bridi da Costa. The Miss World Finalist had her hands and feet amputated after contracting a serious urinary tract infection. She had become sick on December 30 but was misdiagnosed with Kidney Stones.

The Herald report adds, "Bridi was diagnosed with a infection by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium, which can often prove fatal. Septicemia set in in her limbs, cutting off circulation and forcing doctors to amputate."

This is a sad a terrible tragedy. This doesn't take away her beauty as she is still a very pretty woman, but she will not be able to compete in the Miss World competition that she had been a finalist for. I feel bad for her having to go through something like this, not only can she no longer compete, she is missing hands and feet due to lack of technology. If doctors had diagnosed her correctly, she wouldn't be going through this.

Jay McGwire calling out his brother? Mark McGwire is a player sorrounded with controversy. He has tried to get into the hall of fame for the past three years but doesn't recieve a high enough vote. Does he deserve it?

Well for one thing not many guys hit over 500 homeruns which Mark McGwire did. He also held the homerun record for a single season with 70. He was one of the best players in the season during his time, and helped lead the Athletics to the World Series. He did strike out a lot, and he wasn't the best defensive player in the league. Many guys have made the Hall of Fame despite not being a good defensive player. He was one of the better players of his time and always topped in homeruns, but does he deserve to be in the hall? Jay McGwire probably doesn't think so.

Jay McGwire came out and said his brother Mark took Andro, Steroids, and HGH during his career. Im glad Jay McGwire isn't my brother. He wanted to get these things out and wants Mark McGwire to live in what he calls "freedom."

One thing - At the time Mark McGwire took Andro, it was a legal substance and there is no evidence he took it after it became illegal. Another, Mark McGwire isn't the only guy who takes steroids in the league and I can bet about 60% of baseball players have taken steroids at one point in their lives.

Jay McGwire is an idiot, and Mark McGwire, although some may call a cheater, deserves to be in the hall of fame because he would have been a remarkable player whether he took steroids or not, it takes more than steroids to have a great career in baseball.

Obama Keeps Blackberry and gets Sectera Edge

Obama Loves his Blackberry, and he is now able to love it longer. He gets to keep it plus he gets a sectera edge. Just days after his inaguration he figures out he can keep both phones.

The Blackberry is used stricly for personal use and the sectera edge is used for business communication.

Jeff Kent to Retire

One time MVP Jeff Kent is going to retire and hang up his uniform. He is the all-time leader in homeruns at the second base position and is most likely a hall of famer due to an impressive baseball resume. He is expected to announce Thursday at Dodgers Stadium.

Kent is now 40 and is a 5 time all-star. He was an all star 5 times. He is one of the best 2nd basemen to play the game and he was great on and off the field. He was the MVP in 2000 and helped bring the San Fransico Giants to the World Series in which they eventually lost.



Although he was a very angry baseball player and many people to not like him, it is hard to keep him out of the hall of fame.

Rays and Phillies

I am disgusted to watch the Rays play right now. After a Cinderella Story season, it is just terrible to watch. They are playing right now like they could care less, which is just awful. This team had one of the best records in the regular season, and proved themselves in the Playoffs by beating the Red Sox in the ALCS.

My disappointments
Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena, the 3-4 hitters do not have a hit yet in the series.
Sonnanstine - Bad start from a guy who shuts down most AL teams.
B.J. Upton - After 2 great series before he is playing down to what he is able to.

There are others, but right now it is just awful watching the Rays lose to this Phillies ball club. When Jamie Moyer and Joe Blanton shut you down on back to back nights you need to realize you suck.

Hannah Overton

In 2006, 4 year old Andrew Burd was brought to the hospital without a clue of what was wrong with him. Blood tests proved that he had salt poisoning. His level of hypernatremia was almost double of the highest ever recorded.

Everyone turned to Hannah Overton, 29 year old pregnant mother of four who was currently adopting Andrew. She and her husband were arrested immediately, but swore they were not guilty of this crime. She said she put a few dashes of creole seasoning in a sippy cup of water instead of giving him more food for lunch that day. He got sick, and Hannah thought it was just a flu, until it didn't get worse. She brought him to the hospital where he died shortly thereafter. It was then when she was arrested.

People in their community were outraged, and raised $700,000 for their cause. They said Hannah Overton was a good christian and would be the last person to do this.

"We were just waiting for someone to look at it and say 'This is just an accident,'" Larry Overton told "20/20." "Instead, we were arrested."

Hannah said recently Andrew had been eating any kind of food he could find. After dinners he would go through the garbage can and eat the dog and the cat food.

Hannah Overton was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison in September 2007.

"I just kind of broke down," Larry Overton said. "And I just stared out a window for ... I don't know ... probably about an hour."

Larry is now a single father with five children, including the newbord Hannah was pregnant with during the time of Andrews death.

My Story
I believe she wasn't guilty. The problem was that she most likely got angry at the boy and put a couple of teaspoons of this creole seasoning in his water. I am sure she didn't have the intentions of killing Andrew, considering she already had kids and had no criminal record. America is strict on their laws though, and this is a good lesson to learn.

Cuzco Peru

Cusco mob attacks municipality, radio station and mayor's home.

A mob of citizens have been protesting the construction of a hydroelectric plant in Peru. Specifically in Canchis, a province in the region of Cusco(Pronounced Cuzco). Two Policemen were attacked when confronting the angry mob of people. The protestors attacked sicuani radio station and organized a protest outside of the national bank. They destroyed office supplies and equipment in the radio station. Tourists and students have been stranded in this region of Peru and ask for help. The mob is starting to block major roads and bridges, not allowing anyone to get through.

The Story
I think these people are crazy. They will not get what they want and they are wasting their time. Anyone who is in that mob should get out immediately because they will be arrested if they continue.

The other thing is that a hydroelectric plant is actually good for the environment, and the only huge drawback is that if there is no water, then it will not function. But, water is a renewable resource and the plant is unlikely to run out of water, and if it does, you can always get extra from lakes, rivers, and other sources.

The mob is stupid and should stop now before during further damage to their country.

Longtime Arizona men's basketball coach Lute Olson is reportedly stepping down. He had 25 years at Arizona, and missed the entire 2007-2008 season during a divorce. Lute Olson is now 74. In his 25 years he has a 780-280 career record at Arizona, Iowa, and Long Beach State. His record with the Wildcats was 589-187. This includes a national championship in 1997, four Final Four appearances, 11 Pac-10 titles, and 20 consecutive 20-win seasons. Olson has also won seven Pac-10 Coach of the Year awards.

Olson announced last year he would be returning to Arizona for another year, so his successor Kevin O'Neill left the program and took a job as assistant coach for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies. Olson made it obvious he wanted to be there another year, but just couldn't do it. He took a leave of absence last year in November and O'Neill took over from that point. Arizona finished seventh in the Pac-10 last year, the worst finish they've had since the 1982-1983 season - the year before Olson was head coach there. Arizona still ran their streak of NCAA appearances to 24, despite missing head coach Lute Olson.

The most likely cause of Lute Olson stepping down is his age and health. When taking a leave of absence for a divorce last year, he also said it was for health reasons too. He is now 74 years of age, and has 25 years of basketball under his belt. While he did enjoy a good run at Arizona, his age is starting to catch up with him.

Vitale says associate coach Mike Dunlap will fill in for Lute Olson as interim coach. Arizona has denied this report. The best bet now is to wait and see.

I give my best wishes to Lute Olson, his family, and his friends. He had a great run as a college basketball coach, and Arizona will miss him dearly this season. The Wildcats will play their first opener on November 17 against Florida Atlantic. This will be their first opener without Lute Olson in the program in two decades, and I wish Arizona and Lute Olson the best.

Stupid O.J.

I'm not talking about tropicana, I am talking about stupid O.J. Simpson. Did he ever hear of the saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me?" Obviously not, after he actually got away with murder, he goes and does something else stupid.

The Jurors said they all disagreed in his trial 13 years ago in which he was tried for killing his wife and got off. This time he was guilty with 12 charges of armed robbery and kidnapping. This ex-football player and now convict attempted to steal memorabilia he said was stolen from him.

My opinion: O.J. Simpson should already be in jail but its good he is now. Everyone who voted not guilty when O.J. did murder his wife should serve in a prison for 2 months because they are partially responsible for this crime. He should serve the rest of his life in prison and hopefully he does. How could someone so rich(Winona Ryder) try to steal when they can already have so many things others can't. Instead of stealing, how about donating like most honorable celebrities do? O.J. is officially an idiot.
